The past week has been one of "don't drink the Kool-Aid".

After the discovery of E. coli bacteria in a water sample last week, the Mississippi State Department of Health issued a boil water notice for the city's 23,000 residents.

The boil-your-water notice issued for us here in Laurel Mississippi on Thursday the 9th of has been lifted for all but six homes in the city.

Laboratory tests by the MSDH show the water to be free of the bacteria and within regulatory requirements.

Six homes on Ninth Street, between 11th and 12th Avenues, are still under the boil water advisory. Employees of United Water, who operates the Laurel city water system, have notified the residents personally, advising them that their water service remains interrupted.
"United Water provided bottled water to the residents of the six homes, and thanks them for their patience as we work to restore their water service."

Over the weekend, United Water’s emergency personnel took over 200 water quality samples, monitoring the water quality and working closely with the Department of Health to ensure the water was safe to drink.
